This is a World War II American 105mm M14 shell case made into trench art during the Vietnam War. The head stamp on this one reads 105MM M 14 LOT R.C.B. 157 R.C. & B. INC 1945 with the ordnance bomb below it. The primer has a 1961 date. The shell case is 11 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" across the top. The art work on this one is simple, but attractive. This brass shell case has been formed into a flower vase. There is an inscription that has been stamped into the side of the case that reads, "PRESENTED TO/My Wife MARGARET/FOR HER LONELINESS OF ONE YEAR/LOV ALWAYS S. LEE/TAY NINH 1968 - TAY NINH 1969". There is some simple floral engraving on the opposite side of the case. There were multiple fire bases and artillery units in the Tay Ninh province during this time period. You don't see as much Vietnam period trench art as you do WWI or WWII. It's a pretty cool piece that displays well.
