This is a black and white US Navy official photo from World War II. This black and white 8"x10" photo is titled "Navy Air-Sea Rescue Equipment" on the back of the photo, and is dated December 5, 1944. The photo shows a 10 man crew in the water attempting to deploy a life raft. In the distant background four ships can be seen. The back of the photo has the purple/blue ink stamp with the information pertinent to the photo. The File No is 179172, Feature Release: December 5, 1944 and is titled Navy Air-Sea Rescue Equipment. The description i as follows: "Being forced down at sea is one of the occupational risks faced by every Navy flyer. But the Navy is doing it's best to see that being rescued is the natural sequence to such a mishap. Extensive and accident-proof equipment is installed on planes, for the use of those aboard if necessary, or to be dropped to airmen who are unable to use their own. Some of the equipment is depicted in this series of photographs made during tests at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, N.J. The raft of the AR-10 assembly is opened while lines are hauled which will bring up the packages containing the outboard motor and other items." The photo is in good condition and would display well in a frame.
