WWII Wartime State Side Service Stripes
Item #: WR1263

This is a block of four wartime stateside service stripes from the World War II period. There were many professional soldiers in the military that did not go overseas during WWII, just as in WWI. During WWI the military wanted to recognize these professional soldiers for their service, even though they did not deploy to a combat area. So they were authorized to wear the same style chevrons as those worn to indicate overseas service, the only difference would be the color of the stripes. For those soldiers who served in the AEF, for every six month of overseas service was indicated by one gold chevron. For each six months of stateside service during the war the soldier was authorized to wear one silver chevron. During WWII the overseas, or combat chevrons were changed to bars. The same concept applied to differentiate service overseas versus service stateside. This block of four bars indicates two years of stateside service during WWII. It remains in good condition.
