This Model 1874 clothing bag is in very good condition, showing some use. The front flap is clearly stenciled with the U.S., along with a very faded name of W McDonald. The inside of the front flap is stenciled U.S. with ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL beneath it. There is no unit stencil visible anywhere on the clothing bag. All of the buckles, straps and button are securely attached, all stitching is tight and unbroken. There are no holes, rips or tears on the bag, but it does show staining from use. The Chambers sling is in very good condition. The sling is still full length and has both leather straps intact and pliable. When the Model 1874 Infantry Brace System was discontinued, the Chambers sling was issued to carry the bag. These things don't come along everyday, and this one is a great example for your early Indian Wars collection.
