WWI US Sweetheart Pin

This is a US "Sweetheart" pin from the World War I period. The miniature U.S. officer's collar insignia measures 11/16" wide and 5/16" high. The insignia is silver plated and still has a bright sheen to it. The insignia has a pinback from the WWI era. Suspended from the pin is a small, oval link chain that measures 1 3/4" in length. It in turn is attached to another small pin back. This chain is where the actual "Sweetheart" pendant would have been suspended from. Soldiers often had miniatures of their branch of service made, division patches, lockets with a picture and many other keepsakes made and sent home to their sweetheart. While the pendant is missing, this U.S. collar insignia makes a great start for another "Sweetheart" pin.
