This is a United Stated Marine Corps Pattern 1937 officer's winter service uniform identified to Captain James Elmer Brown Jr. This forest green kersey wool winter service jacket uniform is in fantastic condition. The uniform consists of the jacket, trousers, private purchase long sleeve shirt, Pattern 1937 winter service cap and winter garrison cap. The jacket has the patch of the Marine Corps Paramarines sewn on the left sleeve. Pinned on each epaulette are the silver bars of a Captain. The one on the left epaulette is missing some of the finish in the center, both bars are Sterling back marked. A set of Pattern 1937 Eagle, Globe and Anchor insignia are on the collar, both back marked Sterling by Imperial. Pinned above the left breast pocket are a set of paratrooper wings, also Sterling back marked. There are three ribbon bars below the jump wing, the upper one has a Silver Star ribbon, Bronze Star ribbon and Purple Heart ribbon on it. The second bar has the Marine Corps Good Conduct ribbon, American Defense Service ribbon and the Navy Presidential Unit Citation. The third bar has the China Service ribbon, Asiatic pacific Campaign ribbon with two campaign stars and the World War II Victory Medal ribbon. A makers label is sewn on the outside of the inner pocket that reads "Since 1918/A.M. BOLOGNESE & SONS/Tailor and haberdasher/QUANTICO VIRGINIA." The tag inside the pocket has no information on it. The cloth belt for the coat is still present and in good condition. All the buttons on the uniform are back marked SCOVILLE MFG CO./WATERBURY. The trousers are in exceptional condition, the only flaw is a missing button for the left rear pocket flap. There is no makers label, but I assume they came from the same location as the jacket. The shirt is a private purchase item, and is in remarkable condition. The tag sewn in the collar reads, "Made to Measure/Fischbein Brothers/El Paso, Texas". A set of Sterling marked Captains bars are pinned on the collar. Captain Brown's service cap shows evidence of significant wear, but also remains in very good condition. The EGA is a Hilborn & Hamburger product. The cap itself has a makers mark of a San Diego, California clothier, but I can't make out the name of the company. It has the Statue of Liberty in the middle of the label. The sweatband stitching is broken a little over half way around the hat, being attached only around the front of the hat. The garrison cap completes the uniform grouping, and is flawless as well. Included with the uniform are several digital print outs for Captain Brown, to include his Silver Star citation when he was a platoon leader in C Company, 6th Engineer Battalion, 6th Marine Division on Okinawa. This is an exceptional condition uniform grouping of a Marine engineer officer that still has some research to be done on it. It will make a fantastic addition to any WWII collection.
