WWII US Navy Grouping of Fire Controlman 2nd Class Aaron C. Peters USS Harrison

This is a small grouping of items from Aaron Christopher Peters, a Fire Controlman 2nd Class who served aboard the destroyer USS Harrison during World War II. Aaron Peters was born in Clarkrange, Tennessee on 14 May, 1912. He would remain in Clarkrange until his enlistment in the US Navy on 7 February, 1942. After his enlistment, Peters was stationed in San Diego, California for basic seaman school and destroyer training until 25 January, 1943. He is then shown on the muster rolls as being at the Fleet Service School in Virginia Beach, Virginia for the commissioning of the USS Harrison. He continued to train at Virginia Beach through the end of March, 1943, He is shown on the muster rolls as being assigned as part of the crew of the USS Harrison (DD-573) from 26 April, 1943 through September, 1945. On 1 August, 1945 he is shown at the Receiving Station at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii enroute to the United States for his separation from the service. On 1 September he is shown in San Francisco, California and was discharged from the US Navy on 21 September, 1945. Aaron Peters survived WWII and returned to Tennessee. He moved around quite a bit, living in middle Tennessee for a while, then from place to place in east Tennessee. He married his war time sweetheart Sally he mentions repeatedly in his diary. She passed away in 1984 and Aaron passed away on 2 April, 1986. The two are buried together in the cemetery at Clarkrange, Tennessee. This small grouping consists of a framed picture of the USS Harrison, Peters war time diary, two small notebooks named to Peters, three id tags with his service information stamped on one side, one issue dog tag attached to a key ring, discharge card, immunization card, a small color portrait of Peters in uniform, fourteen WWII period black and white photos of Peters, his buddies and one with him and Sally and his FC2nd Class insignia and a Gun Pointer First Class cuff insignia. Fire Controlman 2nd Class Aaron Christopher served aboard the USS Harrison for over 2 1/2 years and was present for all eleven battle stars the ship and crew were awarded. This is a nice little grouping with lots of personal pieces from one of the "Tin Can" sailors who fought the kamakazi attacks off Okinawa and retuned home to tell about it.
