This is a deactivated British Mark I Bren Light Machine Gun from World War II. This deactivated Bren gun consists of a MK I receiver and barrel, MK II butt stock and a Canadian made non adjustable bipod. The receiver has been cut and rewelded in a couple of places, the bolt has been spot welded in a couple of places, the barrel in one. So you can not remove the barrel, the bolt does not cock, the bolt dust cover will not close all the way and the magazine cannot be fully seated. There is no chance this one is going to fire again. The receiver is stamped Mk I/E within D/1943, indicating it was manufactured by Enfield at the Royal Small Arms Factory in 1943. There are inspector's stamps all over the gun, with British War Department acceptance stamps on several pieces. This Bren is not a numbers matching gun. That being said, it sure has some killer display power! It measures 45 1/4" in length and weighs 22 pounds. Chambered in .303, the Bren used the same ammunition as the rifles carried by the infantry it supported, using either a 30 round box magazine or a 100 round drum magazine similar to the Lewis Light Machine Gun it replaced. This Bren comes with a 30 round box magazine. It had a maximum effective range of 600 yards, with a maximum range of 1850 yards. The Bren had a selector switch marked A S R, Automatic, Safe and Repetition ( Single Shot) and a sustained rate of fire of 500-520 rounds per minute. It saw service from the 1930's through the 1990's. If you have a British WWII collection, this will make a great addition to it
