This is a Model 1915 Horizon Blue tunic worn by the French Army during World War I. This Model 1915 tunic is a high quality piece made of horizon blue colored wool with a stand and fall collar. It features the four pocket design with epaulets. The seven button coat has the subdued buttons of the Engineer branch, with six smaller buttons of the same type for the pockets and epaulets. None of the buttons are back marked. The coat is fully lined and has two inner pockets, one on each side. There is no makers label or any other identifying marks in the tunic. The left sleeve has three gold bullion chevrons to indicate two years of service. A gold bullion pilot officers wing and propeller insignia is sewn below the chevrons. Above the left sleeve cuff are two gold bars of bullion, indicating the rank of Lieutenant. The right sleeve has the same two gold bars of bullion of a Lieutenant sewn on it. The collar has two gold bullion winged star insignia sewn on it. Displayed above the left breast pocket are two ribbon bars, one for the French Croix de Guerre without any device and the other for the French Combatant's Cross. Pinned above the right breast pocket is a French pilot's wing, hall marked on the reverse with a B and numbered 6940. The stitching throughout the tunic is tight and unbroken, to include the sewn on insignia. There are no stains, rips, tears or repairs anywhere. The only damage present on the tunic are two small holes on the pleat of the right breast pocket near the bottom. While it is not identified, this is an excellent example of a French Model 1915 tunic worn by a Lieutenant pilot of the French Air Service during WWI.
