Identified Korean War Pattern 1946 Khaki Uniform Staff Sergeant Frank Phillips 1st Cavalry Division

This is a Pattern 1946 enlisted khaki service uniform from World War II. This style of uniform became known as the M-1946 summer uniform worn from 1946 to it's phase out in the mid 1960's. The 1946 version of the shirt had no epaulettes, but it was updated in 1947 to have epaulettes. The entire uniform was made up of the long sleeve shirt, light weight cotton twill trousers, M-1950 garrison cap, neck tie and khaki web belt with brass buckle. The shirt features a stand up collar, six button front and dual pleated chest pockets with button flaps. A quartermaster ink stamp is found in the lower right rear corner of the shirt. It reads "SHIRTS. COTTON. KHAKI/STAND-UP COLLAR. 8.2OZ./J.H. RUTTER-REX MFG. CO., INC./24 NOV 1950 QM 6990/SPEC. MIL-5-3011A/PATTERN DATE: 9 JULY 1946/NYQMPA" with a space for the inspector's stamp below. Printed next to the ink stamp in three lines is "SGT FRANK PHILLIPS/ER 42182206/P-2206". Ink stamped in the back of the collar is the size 15x32 and 55-C-1865-2. The chevrons of a Staff Sergeant are sewn on each sleeve. These are the smaller sized chevrons the Army used between 1948 and 1951. Besides the size difference, the colors of the chevrons indicated a combat arms rank or a non combat arms rank. Blue chevrons sewn on a yellow/gold background signified combat soldiers, gold chevrons on a dark blue background were non combat soldiers. The unit patch on the left sleeve is a green border 1st Cavalry Division patch. The right sleeve has the Staff Sergeant chevrons sewn on it. The left collar has the brass insignia of the Cavalry, while the right collar has the standard US insignia. a Sterling marked Combat Infantry Badge is pinned above the left breast pocket. A two row ribbon bar is pinned below the CIB. On the ribbon bar are the Good Conduct M Medal ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal ribbon, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal ribbon with two campaign stars, the Army of Occupation Medal ribbon, the United Nations Korean Service Medal ribbon and the Korean Service medal ribbon with one campaign star. Pinned above the right breast pocket is a Presidential Unit Citation with one oak leaf cluster. The distinguished unit insignia of the 7th Cavalry Regiment is pinned on each epaulette. The trousers are in very good condition. There is no damage and all the buttons are present. There is no quartermaster tag or stamp present. An M-1950 garrison cap with yellow cavalry trim and 7th Cavalry DUI and khaki belt with brass buckle complete the uniform. A miniature metal 1st Cavalry Division patch has placed on the buckle. The uniform grouping also includes Phillip's dog tags, identification bracelet, souvenir Korea/1st Cavalry table runner and documentation to show Frank Phillips served in WWII and Korean. There;s even a photgraph of him wearing this very uniform. It's a great little uniform grouping for the Korean War or 1st Cavalry Division collector!
