This is a commemorative badge for the Gau Tag held in Munich, Germany in 1933. Germany was broken down into different regions, called Gaus. In the early days of the NSDAP, the political leaders of these regions, known as Gauleiters, would host extravagant events for party leaders and followers. To commemorate these events, these GAU badges were commissioned by the different heads of the regions, as well as Adolf Hitler. They were officially recognized awards of te NSDAP. The recipients of the badges could wear them on their paramilitary uniforms as well as their civilian clothes. This bronzed "tinnie" commemorated the Waffen SS GAU Tag held in Munich in 1933. It measures 1 3/4" across. This one shows wear from use. There is no back mark on the badge.
